Portable Generators

Our most common request is to install the hardware a homeowner needs to connect a portable generator they choose and purchase for emergency backup power.

Benefits of Choosing a Portable Generator

Portable generators can offer meaningful cost savings, flexibility, and ease of use compared with the higher cost and fixed installation of a whole-home generator. They are available in many output capacities from numerous manufacturers. Most are gas-powered, and their run time depends mainly on the amount of fuel stored or purchased. Other advantages include:
  • Portable generator purchase and installation costs can be much lower than those for permanently installed, natural gas-fueled whole-home generators. The generator itself may cost as little as one-tenth as much, installation can cost about half as much, and no poured pad is required.
  • No permits or natural gas hookups are required.
  • You have flexibility in where you place both the portable generator and the inlet box used to connect it to your home. The key requirement is keeping the generator at least 20 feet from the house to reduce carbon monoxide risk.
  • Lifetime maintenance costs are generally much lower.
  • They are easier to upgrade or replace when needed.
  • Propane-fueled models are also available.

Whole-Home Pad Mounted Generators

Whole-home, pad-mounted generators provide seamless backup power without the need for refueling. They run on an underground natural gas supply, which must already be available at your home or installed for an added cost. These systems can often be sized to power the entire home, and because they are covered and mounted on a pad, they are built to withstand wind and storm conditions while continuing to operate.

Although whole-home generators are a larger investment than portable models, some manufacturers offer purchase and installation incentives through their dealer networks. In those cases, additional warranty options may also be available.

If they fit your budget, whole-home generators provide automatic, hands-free backup power whenever it is needed.

Discover whether a portable or whole-home generator makes the most sense for your power needs and budget.

New to the area. What a pleasant experience! Professional, punctual, and fast service at a reasonable price. Scope of work was the installation of a generator outlet hookup. Well done. Highly recommend.
